Overview
At Lynn Shelter Association, adults experiencing homelessness find safety, respect, and practical support to help them move toward stability and housing. Our Adult Emergency Shelter provides a safe place to sleep, rest, and begin planning what comes next. Daytime stabilization and recovery supports give people a welcoming place to take care of basic needs, connect with staff, and access recovery, treatment, and housing-related services at their own pace. Permanent Supportive Housing provides stable homes and ongoing support so residents can remain housed and continue building more stable, fulfilling lives.
Adult Shelter
In March 2026, Lynn Shelter Association opened our new 55-bed Adult Emergency Shelter in the historic Osmund Building—an important step forward in our commitment to ensuring every person is treated with dignity and respect. Here, individuals experiencing homelessness find not just safety, but a place where they can begin to rest, recover, and move toward stability.
Our low-threshold shelter operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, serving more than 500 adult men and women annually. Guests have access to safe sleeping accommodations and essential resources including hot showers, on-site laundry, an industrial kitchen and fully stocked pantry, and welcoming common areas. The space is fully accessible and includes a nurse’s station, private case management offices, a computer room, and a quiet outdoor courtyard. Every element is designed to create a calm, respectful environment where people can take a breath, regain their footing, and begin to plan what comes next.
Daytime Stabilization
For adults who have nowhere else to go during the day, LSA offers a safe, welcoming day program where people can rest, take care of basic needs, and begin reconnecting with services. We welcome individuals who are sleeping in cars, tents, or other unsafe places—without judgment or preconditions. Participants have access to showers, laundry, snacks, supportive staff, computer access, and a quiet courtyard where they can sit outside in a calm, respectful space.
Case managers work with participants to understand their goals and connect them to the supports that can help them move forward. This includes housing navigation and placement, income and benefits enrollment, employment support, healthcare connections, behavioral health services, substance use treatment, and community-based resources, including specialized supports for survivors of domestic violence. For many people, the day program is the first step toward moving beyond immediate crisis and beginning the path to greater stability, independence, and a place to call home.
Recovery Engagement
LSA’s Recovery Engagement Program gives adults experiencing homelessness, substance use, and behavioral health challenges a safe place to go during the day, rather than spending long hours on sidewalks, in parks, or in other public spaces. Open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the program offers a calm, low-threshold environment where people can come inside, rest, use showers and laundry, spend time in the courtyard, and begin connecting with staff and peers at their own pace.
The program builds on LSA’s existing day program by adding more intentional recovery engagement, harm reduction education, peer support, case management, and connections to treatment, behavioral health care, primary care, and other stabilizing services. It is designed for people who may not yet be ready for formal treatment, but who can benefit from a consistent place to feel safe, stabilize, build trust, and take practical next steps.
The Recovery Engagement Program also gives community partners a safe, service-connected place to refer or bring individuals in crisis, while helping participants move toward recovery, permanent housing, and greater stability. The program is voluntary and there is no expectation of sobriety, however, all participants must remain safe, respectful, and present without creating risk to themselves or others.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH)
We operate 89 single room occupancy units and ten supported two-bedroom apartment units for families.
Here we provide a stable and lasting solution for individuals and families who have experienced chronic homelessness or face significant barriers to maintaining housing. We also integrate a range of supportive services to help residents achieve and maintain stable, permanent housing.
Residents work with onsite case managers who provide ongoing support tailored to each client’s needs, including connections to mental health care, substance use and recovery programs, and specialized services for survivors of domestic violence.
Combining stable housing with comprehensive supportive services fosters a sense of community and belonging, helping residents achieve greater independence, improve their quality of life, and break the cycle of homelessness. More than 90% of residents remain stably housed.
