Overview
Our three family shelters provide a supportive, inclusive environment where families experiencing homelessness can find safety, stability, and the consistent support of staff as they work toward permanent housing. Children have a safe place to sleep, and parents have caring staff to help them regain stability and move forward. More than just shelter, we provide the support, guidance, and encouragement families need to move beyond crisis into a home of their own.
Once a family moves into their own stable housing, they continue working with case managers for 2–3 years. Staff help parents navigate rent, utilities, transportation, childcare, school, and changing family needs. This ongoing support is critical to the family’s long-term stability and helps ensure that 95% of our families remain stably housed.
Family Shelters
We serve more than 80 homeless families every night at our three family shelters. Families benefit from a private room which includes a small refrigerator, a private safe to store personal items and medications, and food storage. All shelters have outdoor space for playing or access to a nearby playground, comfortable indoor meeting/playrooms, a large communal kitchen and dining area for group meals. Children have a place to sleep and feel safe, and parents have consistent support as they work toward stable housing.
Most of the families are led by single parents who arrive after crises they did not choose—domestic violence, loss of housing, illness, or job disruption. Parents work tirelessly to keep life as normal as possible for their children: getting them to school, preparing meals, and holding down a job. They also work with Case Managers to search for housing, apply for jobs, obtain their GED or benefits, and access services that will help them take control of their future and pursue their goals with confidence.
Each year, dozens of families move from shelter into permanent homes, and 95% remain housed long term—giving children the stability they need to learn, heal, and thrive.
Stabilization
Our commitment doesn’t end once a family moves out of shelter. Families remain connected with staff who help ease the transition to permanent housing for 2-3 years. Staff and families work together to identify long-term goals, whether it’s securing steady employment, enrolling children in school, accessing education and training opportunities, or enhancing financial literacy. Staff provide support, guidance, and problem-solving assistance, while also connecting families to medical care and other vital community resources. The goal is to ensure families have the support they need to successfully maintain their safe, stable housing long term.
