Overview
Lynn Shelter Association is built on the idea that everyone deserves a place to call home. We work tirelessly to help homeless individuals and families secure and sustain stable, long‑term housing. Staff work with clients in our Adult Shelter, Family Shelters, and Permanent Supportive Housing, offering flexible support as they work toward stability, recovery, and lasting housing success.
Once housing is secured, staff help clients strengthen daily living and tenancy skills and connect with primary care, mental health and substance use care, and recovery resources. By staying involved during and after the transition to permanent housing, our team helps clients maintain housing and stay connected to their communities.
Triage, Engagement, and Assessment (TEA)
Our staff understand that coming to the Adult Shelter for the first time is a major step in a person’s life. It can represent a critical turning point in getting help, taking control, and addressing substance use or other health concerns. Staff are committed to creating an environment of dignity and respect for everyone, including individuals actively using substances or in recovery.
TEA staff engage clients as they enter the shelter, working together with clients to assess their housing needs and recovery goals, create individualized recovery plans, and connect them to vital substance use treatment and mental health services. With a person‑centered and trauma‑informed approach, case managers offer consistent, strengths‑based guidance to help participants make progress in their recovery and permanent housing journey.
TEA staff provide crisis-intervention, offer harm‑reduction and relapse‑prevention strategies, and address barriers that may impact recovery and housing stability. As clients move toward next steps, staff help connect them to longer‑term housing and recovery supports so they do not have to navigate these transitions alone. By prioritizing early engagement, assessment, and access to stable housing, TEA helps clients establish a secure foundation that is essential for enhancing recovery and well‑being.
Community Support Program for Homeless Individuals (CSP-HI)
Community Support Program for Homeless Individuals staff (CSP-HI) work with clients who are homeless and have mental health or substance use challenges. Together, they work to identify suitable, affordable housing that meets the client’s needs, preferences, goals, priorities, and sense of home. Staff offer this assistance without preconditions, grounded in the belief that a secure home is the foundational step toward stability, and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Once housing is secured, staff assist clients with the moving process, providing logistical support, resources, and guidance to facilitate a seamless transition into the new home. This supportive entry into housing reduces stress and removes barriers that can often impede a successful move, such as navigating paperwork, coordinating with landlords, arranging transportation, and securing basic household items.
After move‑in, staff connect clients to primary care, mental health care, substance use services, and other local resources. Clients continue meeting with staff regularly to address daily living and tenancy skills, landlord communication, rent payments, and early problem‑solving so that small challenges do not grow into crises.
By combining individualized housing search, hands‑on move‑in support, and ongoing tenancy coaching, staff help clients build resilience, access ongoing care, and achieve greater independence, providing the stability needed to remain housed over time.
Housing Support Services (HSS)
Grounded in a model of dignity and respect, HSS is built on the belief that stable housing is the foundation for addressing substance use and mental health challenges. HSS staff provide strengths‑based, trauma‑informed care to individuals who are housed but actively using substances or are in recovery, working collaboratively and at each client’s pace to maintain housing, make progress toward recovery goals, and build healthier lifestyles.
Through our person‑centered case management approach, we offer an array of supportive services, including individualized recovery planning; health and wellness education; and connections to mental health support, primary care, substance use treatment, and other community resources. Staff also provide ongoing support for harm reduction and relapse prevention. This combination of housing‑focused support and recovery‑oriented services helps clients maintain housing while improving health, build independence and resilience, and enhance their quality of life.
